Kentucky did it again, this time better than the last. Yesterday was the last game in many conference tournaments in college basketball. Kentucky was pitted against the Florida Gators and were the underdogs. We went off to a good start and were up early. Florida went on a run in the middle of the first half and took a small 3 poin lead. After that switching one point leads for a while Kentucky took over and controlled the entire second half as we won by 16 point.
To make championship weekend better Saturday night Louisville lost to UConn (Connecticut) in a close game.
Last night the brackets came out and there are some surprises and some very good first round games. The number one seeds are Duke (blah), Pittsburgh, Kansas, and the number one overall seed is Ohhio State. Kentucky got a 4 seed and will play 12th seeded Princeton, they are also in Ohio States bracket and could have a possible Sweet 16 match-up with the Buckeyes. They could also have a second round game against West Virginia. West Virginia beat UK in the tournament last year and it would feel nice to get revenge just like we did against some of our SEC rivals this weekend.

First Round Bye
The Wildcats played yesterday on the road against Tennessee. I didn't know how it would go because we haven't been very good on the road this season but I was happy with the outcome. The first half went as expected and Tennessee was up by 7. But after the half Kentucky came out ready to play.
Maybe it was the motivation that this game gave the cats that made the outcome different then ussual. The winner of this game got a first round bye in the SEC tournament. Which means that Kentucky will only have to play 3 games to win the tournament instead of 4. Lets hope we can keep our luck going because the thounament is not in Rupp.

Senior Night
Last night the Kentucky Wildcats played their final home game of the season. It was senior night and everyone was cheering for our lone senior Josh Harrellson had a good night as did most of the cats.
We were off to a good start and had some good leads. In the first half at one point we had a 15 point lead and in the second half we had a 13 point lead at one point. The end however was a nail biter but we pulled off the win by 2 points.

Kentucky, the best of times and the worst of times
It's like there are two different Kentucky teams playing this season. The one that shows up and kills teams at home. Then theres the team that travels on the road and leaves their talent at home.
Kentuchy is undefeated at home this season and haven't lost a home game in the South Carolina team. The only good in those raod losses is that they are atleast close games and not blowouts. We are always in the game we just can't ever finish it.

Labor Talks
With the NFL season over it's time to focus on College basketball, and the offseason. It's been awhile since I've posted so I'm just going to tell you some of the things that have happened in my absence.
In the NBA the Cleveland Cavaliers who lost LeBron James before the season started finally won a game. This ended a NBA record 25 game losing streak. THats not one of the records you would want.
THe NFL has begun talks about the labor issues facing next season. Hopefully they can solve it before the season starts. I don't know if I can go without football next fall.

Super Bowl Week
The Super Bowl was an exciting game and that’s the only way one should be played. It came down to the end with the Packers winning. But unfortunately for Packers fans this is my blog and since I didn’t care who won either way I’m not talking about it anymore.
This blog will be about what went down the week before the Super Bowl when the Regular season awards were given out. This year’s awards were easy to predict and I did it with almost 100% accuracy. Here are the winners of the awards:
MVP- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won the 2nd MVP of his career and became the first player to get everyone of the 50 votes given out.
Coach of the Year- Patriots Coach Bill Belichick won his 3rd Coach of the Year award and became the first Coach to have three of these along with 3 Super Bowl wins.
Offensive Player of the Year- Tom Brady, with an NFL record 9.0 interception ratio it was an eas choice
Defensive Player of the Year- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, I guess this award didn’t help the Steelers win the Super Bowl too bad; Polamalu did have a nice hit on Greg Jennings though, but Jennings also held on for a touchdown.
Offensive Rookie of the Year- Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, this was an easy award as Bradford was the only rookie standout this season.
Defensive Rookie of the Year- Lions defensive tackle Ndomukong Suh (pronounced en’da:mekin ‘ su). He led all defensive tackles in quarterback sacks with 10.0 and made the Lions defense which was not very good.
Comeback Player of the Year- Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, another easy choice as he resurrected his career this season after the Eagles parted ways with long time quarterback Donovan McNabb (Redskins), and Vick was supposed to be Kevin Kolb’s backup at the beginning of the year.

Super Bowl Set
We now know which 2 teams will play in SUper Bowl XLV. It will be the Green Bay Packers playing the Pittsburgh Steelers on February 6th in Cowboys Stadium.
The Packers made it by defeating their division rivals the Chicago Bears 21-14. Overshadowed by the allegations the Bears QB Jay Culter quit on his team.
In the late game the Steelers nearly blew a 24-3 first half lead against the New York Jets. The game ended 24-19. My favorite scene of the game was when the Steelers got a first down with under 2:00 to go that locked in the game. The camera went to Jets coach Rex Ryan as he threw his headset down in discust as he watched his team lose in their second straight AFC Championship game.
My prediction; Steelers- 24, Packers- 21. This will be the first game that I've ever predicted the score so I guess we'll see if I have a future in this (probably not).

WIldcat Wonder
The UK Wildcats were in Rupp Arena this Saturday as they took on the visiting LSU Tigers. The game ended with a 82-44 win for the cats in a game that they never lost the lead and at one point had a 38 point lead. We went 10-20 from behind the arch (3-point line) while holding LSU to a measily 26.2% shooting from the field (17-65). All of the action was in the first half , when the games started and it was still 0-0, when the half ended we were up 48-19. Brandon Knight lead the teams in scoring with 19 pts. Harrellson had 14 redounds and 3 blocks, and Terrence Jones scored 17.

Wild Card Weekend
It was the first weekend of the NFL PLayoffs and the surprises started right off the bat. In the first game of the round the defending Superbowl Champion Saints were stunned by the 7-9 Seahawks. The Seahawks locked the game in on an unbeliavable 67 yard TD run by Marshawn Lynch which put them up 11 points.
The other half of last seasons Super Bowl, the Indianapolis Colts were also eliminated Saturday Night when the New York Jets scored kicked a fieldgoal as time expired to win the game 17-16 and send Peyton Manning home until next year. I'll never say this again but thank you Nick Folk.
Sundays games were just as exciting. In the early game the Ravens dominated the Chiefs, who turned the ball over 5 times, 30-7. In the later game Michael Vick's unbeliavable comeback season ended with an interception which sealed the game for the Packers 21-16.
This set up a great Divisional weekend with these games: Packers @ Falcons, Seahawks @ Bears, Ravens @ Steelers, and Jets @ Patriots.
